FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHICH OF YOUR SERVICES IS RIGHT FOR ME?

Because we offer quite a few services we know it can be hard to choose. Let's start with a few more questions.

Does your pet have anxiety, have they bitten a person or do they suffer through vet visits and grooming? Are they aggressive on leash, barking lunging or snapping?  If yes to one or more of these then you will need to begin by filling out the form here and scheduling a private training session. We will get back to you within 48 hours. If the in-home cost is out of your budget we do have limited private training sessions on Sundays.

Are you looking for a traditional group class? We have 6-week Classes for Puppies and Adult Manners. These classes meet once a week and you do your part by putting in the time outside of class to do your homework.

Are you looking for a custom solution for a trainer to come to your home and teach you to train your dog? Private Lessons Begin with an in-home consultation (Contact us!)  and then we have packages of 3, 6, or 10 sessions.

WHAT IS YOUR APPROACH TO PET TRAINING?

We use a LIMA or "Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive" method to training. This goes for humans too. We believe that pain, coercion and intimidation do not have a place in modern dog training. We believe in reduced stress handling methods, compassion, and kindness for all involved.

DOES MY PET HAVE TO BE FULLY VACCINATED?

No.

Young puppies receive vaccinations on (in general) a 2 week interval. There are 3 or 4 sets of boosters given from the time the puppy is 4 or 5 weeks old to the time the puppy is 6 months old.

Puppies must have 2 sets of DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza) to obtain an 80% immunity to these viruses. Because of the number of anxiety and under-socialized dogs we see in our practice we encourage EARLY SOCIALIZATION. The American Society of Veterinary Behavior has released this statement on socialization prior to vaccination completion: Click Here.

We require proof (you can text a photo of your vet records to us at 502-829-7986) for puppies enrolling in classes. We require rabies vaccination and proof of all vaccinations or proof of titer testing for dogs over 6 months old.

IS MY PET TOO OLD TO BE TRAINED?

It depends.

If your dog is under the age of seven years old, we can certainly teach him new tricks. My oldest client was an 11 year old daschund.

This is a classic "dog trainer" answer. The brain retains it's capacity to make changes into the senior years, but if your dog is suffering from something like hearing loss, or canine cognitive dysfunction there might not be so much training that can be done.

That's not to say that we cannot train deaf dogs. Yes, we can train deaf dogs, and blind dogs. And blind AND deaf dogs.

Aging is a complex process in dogs, so it may not have as much to do with age as it does development.
